Provide a short description of your department & its main activities within J&J
Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) is a core scientific discipline within drug discovery and development as well as post¿marketing. It helps to design and select the most promising drug candidate and obtain advanced insights on the processes that control absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) of the final drug candidate in order to understand the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and safety of the novel drug in patients. The Analytical Sciences team provides the analytical support for the DMPK department. They perform analysis of in vitro and in vivo samples for end-to-end metabolite profiling and identification as well as quantification of drug candidates, metabolites and biomarkers.
In the department of Analytical Sciences DMPK we currently have an internship position for a master student with background or interest in (analytical) chemistry (m/f).

description de la fonction

Job description:
The intensity of the signals obtained by mass spectrometry is highly dependent on the chemical structure of the compound analysed. Therefore, only compounds for which an authentic standard is available can be quantified using mass spectrometry. In metabolism studies, drug metabolites are identified for which no standards are available. In this project we will evaluate a new tool developed at the University of Tartu in Estonia to predict the mass spectrometry response of compounds. We will evaluate the possibilities of the software and its accuracy to predict the relative abundance of drug metabolites.
