The Clinical Supply Chain department is responsible to deliver supplies for all the ongoing clinical trials. Developed new drugs get tested over the years on humans to test efficiency and efficacy. We produce multiple clinical batches per year using varied technologies. Development of new drugs has many challenges, so we work closely with Drug Product Development and Pharma science departments.

In the department of CSC we currently have an internship position for "Using Process Analytical Technology (PAT) DATA as enabling technology for the cleaning procedures of pharmaceutical spray dryers".

job description

The candidate will be part of a functional department, he/she will have the opportunity to work/collaborate with different groups. Spray-drying is one of the enabling technology platforms within Janssen drug product development/manufacturing to improve the bioavailability of poorly soluble pharmaceuticals. Recently, novel PAT tools have been integrated on different scales to measure important material and process parameters to support scientifically based process design, understanding and optimization towards robust process development, efficient tech transfer, and real-time process control for spray drying processes.

Besides that the use of these PAT tools as enabling technology for the cleaning procedures of Pharmaceutical Spray Dryers seems to be promising. In this work, the PAT tools and their capabilities to derive efficient cleaning procedures/guidelines should be assessed. Based on existing process and PAT data a framework has to be established that allows to derive cleaning procedures/guidelines for the pharmaceutical spray dryers.

Responsibilities and duties:
- Work and collaborate with different groups
- Literature and historical data study
- Understand spray drying formulation and cleaning
- Spend time in the lab to perform different kind of experiments
- Execute some experiments at a pilot scale.

- He/she has an explicit interest in production and supply chain.
- He/she is eager to learn and achieve results
- He/she has analytical skills to understand specific issues
- Thanks to his/her communicative skills he/she will manage to work and co-operate in our international organization.
- Fluent in Dutch and English.
