As a student you may work 650 hours per year, freely selectable over the entire calendar year. This allows you to enjoy reduced social contributions. If you work more than 650 hours per year, you'll pay the normal social contributions.

It depends on the sector you work in as a student. Within a sector, collective labour agreements may be concluded in which the (minimum) wage is agreed. If no employment agreement has been concluded within the sector, your salary will be set on the basis of the guaranteed minimum wage.

Binnen een sector kunnen collectieve arbeidsovereenkomsten worden afgesloten waarin het (minimum)loon wordt afgesproken. Als er binnen de sector geen arbeidsovereenkomst is afgesloten, wordt je salaris vastgesteld op basis van het gewaarborgd minimumloon.

Je kan als student werken vanaf de leeftijd van 16 jaar of al vanaf 15 jaar wanneer je de eerste twee leerjaren van het secundair onderwijs voltooid hebt. 

If you stop studying in June, July or August, you can still work as a student during the summer holidays. After that holiday period, i.e. after 30 September, you can no longer work as a student. 

Studentenjob: boordeligere sociale zekerheidsbijdrage (solidariteitsbijdrage 2,71%) tot 650 uur in 2025.

Werkstudent: vanaf 651 uur betaal je de normale sociale zekerheidsbijdragen (RSZ).

It depends on how much you earn as a student. If you work as a student in 2025, you will remain a tax dependent of your parents if you are still part of the family in January 2026. And your net taxable income maxes out at €10,910.
