payroll specialist europe (english/german)

As a Payroll Specialist Europe, you will oversee the end-to-end administration, coordination, and execution of payroll operations across multiple European entities (including Belgium, Germany, the UK, Italy, Switzerland, and Croatia). External vendors handle local statutory calculations, while you ensure data accuracy, proper system updates, and seamless financial reconciliation.

Your main responsibilities:

• Payroll Execution & Coordination: Collect and process monthly employee changes (e.g., hires, terminations, compensation updates, and leaves) and transmit them accurately to local payroll vendors.
• Reconciliation & Finance Integration: Verify output from payroll vendors against internal systems, perform month-end payroll reconciliations, and prepare journal adjustments for the Finance department.
• Vendor & Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the main point of contact for internal HR and Finance teams, employees, payroll providers, and external authorities (such as the German tax office).
• Process Improvement: Analyze payroll data, resolve discrepancies, maintain SOPs/controls, and identify opportunities to streamline payroll workflows.

• Experience: At least 3 years of experience in payroll administration. Prior experience managing multi-country European payrolls is a strong plus.
• Language Skills: Professional working proficiency in English (internal communication language) and solid practical knowledge of German (to communicate independently with German tax authorities and vendors).
• Analytical & Excel Skills: Strong affinity for data and numbers with medium-to-high Excel proficiency (ability to use formulas and analyze large datasets efficiently).
• Education: A specific Bachelor's degree is not required; relevant work experience and data/payroll expertise are what matter most.
• Competencies: Strong problem-solving skills, high attention to detail, discretion with confidential employee data, and the ability to work both independently and proactively. Experience with HRIS tools like Workday is a plus.
