As part of the rollout of our fibre optic network, it is essential to have a high-performance network that can be constructed up to the customer's site in a cost-efficient manner. This network is therefore designed using the latest applications, which enables our client to design such optimised networks in a short space of time.

You will work within a small team on the future of the (automatic) design of fibre optic networks (network design). Specific software is used for this (Comsof Fiber). This software and the data that is used to run this software, is continuously improved. It is either adapted to the latest design rules, optimised together with the supplier, simulations are used to search for potential improvements, …

Creating and checking network designs with Comsof will be the basics tasks you start with.

• You ensure that the necessary input data is available to be able to make the designs. This data can come from various sources, e.g. GRB, URBIS, PICC, databases, street survey data, ...
• You monitor the data quality of this input, which is necessary for the design routines to work (possibly by using specific tools).
• You know the design rules that are applied in the routines and cooperate with others to let those design rules evolve

As you gain experience you will become responsible for different tools that are used in concert with Comsof or you will develop new tools (QGIS, python, FME). Important is that you constantly check for opportunities to make existing processes and tools more efficient. This may be by formulating process improvements yourself and discussing these with the various actors in the process, or by optimising the ecosystem in which you work. These can be adjustments to IT applications and/or architecture, proposing automations, adding intelligence, etc. This can spin-off into projects, some with important responsibilities, which you can lead (e.g. we have now a new mobile mapping project being started with external companies).

What are the requirements for this function?

• Master’s degree
• Experience with GIS tools (QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.)
• Experience with programming in a GIS environment (Python, FME)
• Experience with processing large quantities of data (big data) and experience with monitoring data quality within such an environment
• Knowledge of network construction (fibre optic/copper) or experience within the telecom world is an advantage
• Knowledge of Dutch, English and French

Personality:

• You work accurately, you have an eye for detail
• You have a strong analytical mind; you are not afraid to solve complex problems
• You have a good sense of space and an affinity with geo-matter
• You are communicative, you can give presentations
• You like working in a team
• You can manage a small to medium size project
