The TEC Material Research team is a part of TEC center which is a division of the Engine BU. This team is mainly responsible for materials and media development and its qualifications. The main aim is to evaluate and validate materials and filter media to be used by the Engine and Industial BU’s. Further we are supporting Engineering with technical issues related to materials.
Within the research scope of TEC Center, a Material Research Engineer interacts with various other teams such as Engineering of different BU’s and Corp Tec in US as well as external institutes, suppliers, costumers.
For one of our customers in region Leuven, we are searching for a Materials Research Engineer.
Within the Materials Research Team, you will be mainly responsible for material programs primary for the Industrial BU (Process Filtration and Compressed Air) and some other activities listed below in more detail.
Material Evaluation, Validation and Support:
Prospect, set up specifications, managing validation and approval of new or changed materials (e.g. filtration media, liners, adhesives, rubber, steel, alloys, coating, paints).
Product Engineering and Plant Support / Consulting:
Ensure, facilitate and maintain good efficient communication with plants, international entities and the Product Management team regarding materials, Substance Of Concern, test & evaluation methodologies;
Assist engineers to select material and predict feasibility and performances;
Support Knowledge management for Engineering concerning validation, selection and use of different materials.
Technologies / Synergies
Keep up-to-date of new relevant technologies;
Identify, recommend and help to deploy new technologies to enhance our products and working practices;
Plant & Purchasing support
Co-operate with manufacturing, vendors and suppliers to improve processes (robustness), fix issues, reduce costs and support new product implementation (plant liaison). Maximize design for manufacture-ability;
Investigate field returned parts or parts failing during development. Identify root causes & recommend solutions.
Master in Science/Engineering or Industrial Engineering.
min. 3 years of experience in an engineering position working in team with plants and Engineering.
Good background in physics & chemistry (mechanical, materials, filtration media);
Understanding of Air and Liquid Filtration;
Knowledge of Engineering & Manufacturing methods and capabilities;
Knowledge of used and new materials;
Strong in problem analysis and solving;
Statistical tools (6 Sigma);
Project Management skills;
Proficiency in English and German. Good communication skills;
Complete understanding of company policies, operating systems and procedures;
Technical and commercial understanding of the overall program;
Business acumen with regards to investment, risks and results.
