It is important to take your time to get over this. Some people are in too much of a hurry. They are afraid of the financial consequences of being unemployed and want to get back to work as quickly as possible. This isn’t always the best thing to do. Those in their fifties are at an age where life can be turbulent; for example, with caring for sick parents. Some need a month to regain their positive spirit, while others may need six. However, it is important to take your time.

This is also the time to think about what you want: the same job, another job, a job closer to home, further training, etc. It’s not easy, but be honest with yourself: what are you good at, what experience do you have, which aspects do you wish to use in the future? Remember, once an accountant does not necessarily mean always an accountant. Jobs change and so do people.
